Is old dock wiring actually dangerous?
It can be uniquely so. Electric shock drowning happens at current levels a standard breaker never notices, in fresh water especially. If your dock predates modern GFCI requirements — most older ones do — an assessment isn’t alarmism, it’s due diligence.
What does it cost to run power to a dock?
Distance from the house and trenching conditions drive it, then the equipment on the dock itself. A pedestal at the end of an existing run is modest; a full boathouse feed is a bigger project. Site visit, then a firm written number.
