Layout is the whole game

Recessed lighting fails when it’s laid out on a grid instead of around the room — glare at the sofa, shadows on the counter. We design layers: ambient, task, and accent, with dimming zones that match how the room is actually used. Then we install with clean ceilings and honest patching where old-work cuts are unavoidable.

Outside: light the property, not the sky

Landscape and security lighting done well is subtle — paths readable, entries welcoming, dark-sky friendly fixtures aimed where light belongs. Exterior circuits get proper burial depth, GFCI protection, and transformers sized for expansion.

Our lighting design process

Good lighting is designed backwards from the room: where you cook, read, gather, and walk — then layers are built to serve it. Ambient light for the space, task light where work happens, accent light for the features worth seeing. We plan dimming zones by use, pick color temperatures deliberately (warm and consistent, always), and lay out recessed fixtures around the furniture plan rather than the joist bays.

On install day, the craft shows: clean ceiling cuts, fished cable instead of opened drywall wherever cavities allow, honest patching where they don't, and controls that make the layers usable — because a beautifully lit room with confusing switches gets used like a badly lit one.

Lighting for the way this region lives

Adirondack lighting has its own brief. Winter is long and dark at this latitude — interior light quality is a genuine well-being issue from November through March, and LED retrofits with proper color rendering earn their keep daily. Great rooms and cathedral ceilings need fixtures selected and mounted for height. Exteriors must survive snow-shedding roofs and plow berms. And on the lakes, outdoor lighting carries a dark-sky responsibility we design for: warm, shielded, and aimed at the ground it serves.
