First, rule out the meter reading
Before the appliance trial begins: check whether the bill is estimated or actual. Dehumidifiers and the damp-basement economy. A failing element or motor somewhere — well pump, water heater, furnace blower, sump — drawing more current than its healthy self while still “working.” Equipment can limp expensively for a long time before it fails honestly.
A water heater or heat-tape circuit backfeeding heat into a problem — like element trace on a line with a slow leak, running constantly to warm the ground.
